The importance of finding the right keywords to target.
Average Joe was setting up his website and he was really going for it, this time, as he was determined that his website would be noticed. He went the whole nine yards and come what may, people would definitely be blind NOT to see this one.
Compared to a car, it was the type of construction one first needed to put sunglasses on for before being able to have a good look at it, that’s how bright it was. It had everything: the tooters, whisles, bells and the ribbons too. Everything was absolutely perfect and spotless. I’m not telling you about the effort nor the amount of hours he put in because you wouldn’t believe it anyway.
He even set up a drinks vending machine and a small sales booth for the product he was promoting. Nothing fancy, I mean, the site was such an extravagant oversell, one didn’t want to frighten away any potential customer who happened to be passing by and lose a sale in the process.
As for the advertizing, man, that really was something! I mean, Joe went through the trouble of creating a billboard about two miles from his modest little hut and what a billboard it was. You could see it from a distance of 15 miles away because the thing was three miles wide by half a mile high. It was next to impossible not to notice it unless you were indeed blind as a mole.
But as things go in virtual land, where all Internet activity can be seen by the world of real people, Joe’s potential customers all could be found on the American and European continents. Joe Knew that, it’s why he made his billboard so huge.
Except, Joe hadn’t done all his homework, because by the time he started wondering why no one came to his vending booth, his frustration was already building up.
So he went looking for help. He had to look long and hard, because help was very scarse, but finally, he found a good soul to take pity on him and tell him what was the matter with his site. Looking at the paperwork, his friend started to laugh merrily. Tears were rolling down his cheeks and he had to hold his belly, as he was laughing so hard, it hurt.
“My dear Joe”, he told him, “Why did you put up this extravagance in the Gobi desert? You should have put it in the Nevada desert, a few miles out of Vegas, in the direct landing path of incoming aeroplanes so the passengers on board could have seen it. What would a Chinese camel driver do with a poker tricks manual?”
This long winded run up story was an attempt at writing a parable, which is a writing technique that people have been using for thousands of years to explain things to other people who would become very angry if you would tell them the truth up front.
The truth about keywords is that if you don’t find the right ones, your site will not be targeted at the correct audience and your message will be lost.
